Operations Dashboard Creation Demonstration Script

MUHTASARI

This script is to be used for presenting the different stages needed to create an Operations Dashboard on Cadasta’s Platform, kulingana na bidhaa ya ESRI ArcGIS.

2. Show how to find the Project Grow web map by searching for “grow” in the search bar and selecting the web map named Project GrowProject Map.

3. Show how to select the Unda Programu ya Wavuti button and click the Dashboards chaguo.

4. Show how you can change the Kichwa of the Dashboard, Vitambulisho, na Muhtasari. Then press the sawa kitufe.

5. Show the Dashboard window and how it already includes the web map selected in the previous steps.

6. Show the Okoa button and emphasize that it is important to save after each change has been made.

7. Show that you can add a new card by pressing the + kitufe.

8. Show the different card types you can make. Focus on the most frequently used cards: Serial Chart; Jedwali la mdwara; Kiashiria; na Kipimo.

9. Explain that a Serial Chart shows one or more series of data points along a horizontal (x) axis and a vertical (y) axis.

10. Show a slide with an example of such a Serial Chart.

11. Explain that a Jedwali la mdwara shows part-to-whole relationships or data composition. It is not meant to show more than seven or eight data points.

12. Show a slide with an example of a Jedwali la mdwara.

13. Explain that an Kiashiria can be used to show the numeric attributes of individual features or it can be used to display a count, a sum, an average, a minimum, or a maximum summary statistic.

14. Show a slide with an example of an Kiashiria.

15. Explain that a Kipimo is used to display a single metric defined by minimum and maximum values.

16. Show a slide with an example of a Kipimo.

17. Explain that you will now show how to create a Serial Chart.

18. Chagua Serial Chart option on your Dashboard window.

19. Select the layer “Project GrowView for Web Maps.”

20. Explain that Categories From can be taken from Grouped Values, Features, au Fields.

21. Show a slide that describes Grouped Values, Features, na Fields and when each type should be used.

22. Explain that you will be using the Grouped Values option under the Categories From selection (which is the default option) for this project.

23. Kutoka Category Field drop-down menu select the “Head of household’s age” field.

24. Show that a preview of the chart automatically shows up to the right to help you quickly understand how the data will be shown.

25. Show that the default Statistic used is Count. If your dataset has other statics computed, they can be used instead by changing the type and selecting the field which includes this data.

26. Show that the chart has a category called “Null.” This counts the rows which do not have any entries to the “Head of household’s age” field.

27. Explain that these records can be omitted from the chart by adding a Chuja.

28. Show the Chuja section and press the + Chuja kitufe.

29. Show that you can define the condition of this filter by selecting the field.

30. Start entering the words “Head of household’s age” to find this field and then select it.

31. Show that you can select a Value for the condition or change the operator to something different.

32. Explain that since you want to remove the records which have null values you will be changing the operator from “equal” to “is not null.”

33. Show that once this filter is defined, the chart will refresh to show the categories without the records which contain null values. You can add more filters by clicking the And na Or buttons.

34. Explain that there are many options available in configuring how the chart looks but in this demonstration you will only show one option.

35. Bonyeza Mfululizo tab on the left hand side and show the options available for configuring the data series.

36. Ndani ya Series Options panel, nenda kwa Bar Colors and press the By Category kitufe. Each category will now appear as a different color.

37. Each color can be changed or the entire color band can changed by pressing the Apply Colors button and selecting a different color band.

39. Explain that it is important to give the Serial Chart a name so that it can be referred to in the future when adding more advanced options.

40. Change the Jina of this chart to “Age.”

41. Explain that it is also important to give a title which explains what the chart is showing.

42. Ndani ya Kichwa section press the Hariri button and enter the words “Age Distribution.” Then make the text bold and centered using the text options.

43. Show how the new title shows up at the top part of the chart.

44. Bonyeza Imefanywa button in the bottom right corner to save your work. Emphasize that it is important to do this every time in order to save your changes.

45. Show that the new card has been added to the Dashboard.

46. Point out that the new card has a different background than the general background of the Dashboard.

47. Explain that it is important to have consistent backgrounds and chart colors to make it easier to understand the information being shown and that you will now show how this is done.

48. Show how you can configure the card by hovering over the top left corner of the card and selecting the Sanidi kitufe.

49. Bonyeza Mkuu tab on the left hand side.

50. Show how you can change the background color by pressing the Background Color square.

51. Explain that you can either select a color from the color palette or enter the hexadecimal code of the color.

52. Fungua HTML Color Codes page to show an example of a way to help you find the hexadecimal code of a color.

53. Bonyeza Background Color square and select the light gray color (#ebebeb code).

54. Bonyeza Imefanywa button and show that now the card background color aligns with the general background color.

55. Show a slide which outlines some general rules regarding the use of colors in Dashboards. Explain that color can be used to make connections between information, evoke authority, and/or draw attention. Show examples of each one in the slides.

56. In the Dashboard page press the Okoa button and remind the trainees again that it is important to save your changes every time they are made. Emphasize that especially in areas with low connectivity the save option is crucial to ensure that changes are not lost.

57. Explain that you will now show how to create an Kiashiria.

58. Bonyeza + button and select the Kiashiria chaguo.

59. Select the layer “Project GrowView for Web Maps.”

60. Show that the default option is to count the number of records in the layer.

61. Explain that there are other options for statistics including minimum/maximum values, average, sum and standard deviation.

62. Next to the Statistic uwanja, bonyeza kitufe cha Count option and show the drop-down list of options.

63. Explain that for Statistics that are not Count, you will need to define which field is to be used. Show the drop-down with the list of numeric fields available for use.

64. Explain that for this demonstration we will be focusing on the default Count chaguo. Make sure that it is selected.

65. Bonyeza Mkuu tab on the left hand side.

66. Explain that it is important to give the Kiashiria a name so that it can be referred to in the future when adding more advanced options.

67. Change the Jina to “num_parcels.”

68. Explain that it is also important to give a title which explains what it is being shown.

70. Enter the words “Number of Parcels.” Then make the text bold and centered using the text options.

71. Show that the new title shows up at the top part of the chart.

73. Show that the new card has been added to the Dashboard.

74. Note that the new card has a different background than the general background of the Dashboard.

75. Show again how you can configure the card by hovering over the top left corner of the card and selecting the Sanidi kitufe.

76. Bonyeza Mkuu tab on the left hand side.

77. Bonyeza Background Color square and select the light gray color (#ebebeb code).

78. Bonyeza Imefanywa button and show that now the card background color aligns with the general background color.

79. Explain that a Dashboard can also be saved under a different name. This can be useful when edits are needed but you want to preview how they look.

80. Press the down arrow next to the Okoa button and then select the Okoa Kama chaguo.

81. Change the title of the new Dashboard to “Project GrowProject Map edit preview.”

82. Bonyeza Okoa kitufe.

83. Explain that after you finish adding all of the elements in the Dashboard, you will need to share the Dashboard so that others can access it.

84. In the Dashboard view page, go to the upper left corner and press the down arrow next to the Nyumbani kitufe.

85. Chagua Dashboard Item Details chaguo.

87. Explain that this window shows you the different options for sharing your Dashboard.

88. Emphasize that the data sources used in the Dashboard (web map and the layers in the web map) should all be shared in the same way as the Dashboard. Kwa mfano, if the Dashboard is shared with Everyone, then the layers and web maps also need to be set to sharing with Everyone.

89. Explain that if you share the Dashboard with Everyone that it will not require an account to view. You should open the Dashboard in an incognito browser to verify that all Dashboard elements are showing correctly. We will demonstrate this now.

91. Copy the url of the Dashboard. Open an incognito browser and paste the url to open the Dashboard.

92. Explain that it is important to review the different parts of the Dashboard. If any of the elements are not showing up correctly, you should edit the Dashboard by going back to the Maelezo ya Kipengee page and pressing the Edit Dashboard kitufe.

93. Explain that after the Dashboard has been shared, you can get a short url link to easily share this Dashboard.

95. Go to the upper right corner and press the down arrow next to the Chaguzi zaidi kitufe, which is symbolized by three small dots.

96. Under the Share Link section you will see the short url link which you can use to share the Dashboard.

97. Open a new incognito browser and paste the url link to test it.

98. Explain that this link can be shared with anyone who wants to see the Dashboard.
