Operations Dashboard Creation Demonstration Script

RESUMEN

This script is to be used for presenting the different stages needed to create an Operations Dashboard on Cadasta’s Platform, based on the ESRI ArcGIS product.

SUPUESTOS

  • Trainees have an understanding on how to log into Cadasta’s Platform and create a web map.
  • You, the trainer, have slides which show:

PASOS DE LA DEMOSTRACIÓN

1. Mostrar la Página de inicio de Cadasta Platform.

2. Show how to find the Project Grow web map by searching for “grow” in the search bar and selecting the web map named proyecto crecer – Mapa del proyecto.

3. Show how to select the Create Web App button and click the Dashboards opción.

4. Show how you can change the Título of the Dashboard, Etiquetas, y el Resumen. Then press the Okay botón.

5. Show the Dashboard window and how it already includes the web map selected in the previous steps.

6. Mostrar la Salvar button and emphasize that it is important to save after each change has been made.

7. Show that you can add a new card by pressing the + botón.

8. Show the different card types you can make. Focus on the most frequently used cards: Gráfico de serie; Gráfico circular; Indicador; y Calibre.

9. Explain that a Gráfico de serie shows one or more series of data points along a horizontal (X) axis and a vertical (y) axis.

10. Show a slide with an example of such a Gráfico de serie.

11. Explain that a Gráfico circular shows part-to-whole relationships or data composition. It is not meant to show more than seven or eight data points.

12. Show a slide with an example of a Gráfico circular.

13. Explain that an Indicador can be used to show the numeric attributes of individual features or it can be used to display a count, a sum, an average, a minimum, or a maximum summary statistic.

14. Show a slide with an example of an Indicador.

15. Explain that a Calibre is used to display a single metric defined by minimum and maximum values.

16. Show a slide with an example of a Calibre.

17. Explain that you will now show how to create a Gráfico de serie.

18. Selecciona el Gráfico de serie option on your Dashboard window.

19. Seleccione la capa "Proyecto Crecer – Ver para mapas web”.

20. Explain that Categories From can be taken from Valores agrupados, Features, o Fields.

21. Show a slide that describes Valores agrupados, Features, y Fields and when each type should be used.

22. Explain that you will be using the Valores agrupados option under the Categories From selection (which is the default option) for this project.

23. From the Campo de categoría drop-down menu select the “Head of household’s age” field.

24. Show that a preview of the chart automatically shows up to the right to help you quickly understand how the data will be shown.

25. Show that the default Estadística used is Contar. If your dataset has other statics computed, they can be used instead by changing the type and selecting the field which includes this data.

26. Show that the chart has a category called “Null.” This counts the rows which do not have any entries to the “Head of household’s age” field.

27. Explain that these records can be omitted from the chart by adding a Filtrar.

28. Mostrar la Filtrar section and press the + Filtrar botón.

29. Show that you can define the condition of this filter by selecting the field.

30. Start entering the words “Head of household’s age” to find this field and then select it.

31. Show that you can select a Value for the condition or change the operator to something different.

32. Explain that since you want to remove the records which have null values you will be changing the operator from “equal” to “is not null.”

33. Show that once this filter is defined, the chart will refresh to show the categories without the records which contain null values. You can add more filters by clicking the Y y Or buttons.

34. Explain that there are many options available in configuring how the chart looks but in this demonstration you will only show one option.

35. presione el Serie tab on the left hand side and show the options available for configuring the data series.

36. En el Series Options panel, Ve a la Bar Colors and press the By Category botón. Each category will now appear as a different color.

37. Each color can be changed or the entire color band can changed by pressing the Apply Colors button and selecting a different color band.

38. presione el General tab on the left hand side.

39. Explain that it is important to give the Gráfico de serie a name so that it can be referred to in the future when adding more advanced options.

40. Cambiar el Nombre of this chart to “Age.”

41. Explain that it is also important to give a title which explains what the chart is showing.

42. En el Título section press the Editar button and enter the words “Age Distribution.” Then make the text bold and centered using the text options.

43. Show how the new title shows up at the top part of the chart.

44. presione el Hecho button in the bottom right corner to save your work. Emphasize that it is important to do this every time in order to save your changes.

45. Show that the new card has been added to the Dashboard.

46. Point out that the new card has a different background than the general background of the Dashboard.

47. Explain that it is important to have consistent backgrounds and chart colors to make it easier to understand the information being shown and that you will now show how this is done.

48. Show how you can configure the card by hovering over the top left corner of the card and selecting the Navegue a su mapa deseado en Map Viewer botón.

49. presione el General tab on the left hand side.

50. Show how you can change the background color by pressing the Color de fondo square.

51. Explain that you can either select a color from the color palette or enter the hexadecimal code of the color.

52. Abre el HTML Color Codes page to show an example of a way to help you find the hexadecimal code of a color.

53. presione el Color de fondo square and select the light gray color (#ebebeb code).

54. presione el Hecho button and show that now the card background color aligns with the general background color.

55. Show a slide which outlines some general rules regarding the use of colors in Dashboards. Explain that color can be used to make connections between information, evoke authority, and/or draw attention. Show examples of each one in the slides.

56. In the Dashboard page press the Salvar button and remind the trainees again that it is important to save your changes every time they are made. Emphasize that especially in areas with low connectivity the save option is crucial to ensure that changes are not lost.

57. Explain that you will now show how to create an Indicador.

58. presione el + botón y seleccione el Indicador opción.

59. Seleccione la capa "Proyecto Crecer – Ver para mapas web”.

60. Show that the default option is to count the number of records in the layer.

61. Explain that there are other options for statistics including minimum/maximum values, average, sum and standard deviation.

62. Next to the Estadística campo, presione el Contar option and show the drop-down list of options.

63. Explain that for Statistics that are not Contar, you will need to define which field is to be used. Show the drop-down with the list of numeric fields available for use.

64. Explain that for this demonstration we will be focusing on the default Contar opción. Make sure that it is selected.

65. presione el General tab on the left hand side.

66. Explain that it is important to give the Indicador a name so that it can be referred to in the future when adding more advanced options.
